Group Classes begin April 5

Essential Life Skills

4 Saturdays, beginning April 5, at the Newfane Union Hall

Over four weeks we’ll work on three essential life skills:

  • Loose-leash walking

  • Polite greetings of people and other dogs

  • Coming when called

This class is for dogs five months and older who have had some manners training, and who are friendly when meeting new people and new dogs.

Classes are 45 minutes long and are limited to 3 dogs per class.

If you’re unsure your dog will do well in class, email Janice Z. Find out more here, including what you’ll need for class!

The class times below have space available. If there is enough demand, I’ll offer another class at 1:30 pm.

  • We’ll teach your dog three specific, essential life skills: loose-leash walking, politely greeting people and dogs, and to come when called.

This class is for dog five months and older who have had some manners training. If you have a younger dog, I invite you to do private training with my Puppy Perfection.

Classes are limited to 3 dogs and are 45 minutes long.

  • This means your dog walks near you without pulling.

We will not be teaching your dog to walk in a strict “heel” position.

  • Dogs attending this class should have a baseline of manners training, which should enable them to pay attention to you during the distractions of class.

If your dog has not had a basic manners course with me or another trainer, please check out my Essential Manners training program, where we also cover these topics!

If your dog is younger than five months and needs manners training, I invite you to sign up for my Puppy Perfection private training.

  • Let’s talk about your dog’s behavior before you enroll. Please either sign up for a free 15-minute consultation here, or drop in during my Tuesday office hours (sign up here for the office hours link).

  • If your dog eats, she is motivated by food! The trick is making it work for us.

Check out my recent blog on that very topic, here.

  • Each enrolled dog can have two people come to class. You can bring anyone in your household age 10 and over who will enjoy teaching your dog.

Young people are usually genius trainers!

  • Classes are held at the Newfane Union Hall, 5 West Street, Newfane. It’s the building to the left of the church as you face the town fountain. (Online maps don’t always accurately provide directions to this address.)

    The building is ADA accessible.

You’ll see my car parked outside with my Janice Z Dog Training magnets on it!
